Sof: Aussies through to gold medal match in softball

ATHENS, Aug 22 AAP - Australia beat Japan 3-0 in its Olympic softball final today to
advance to tomorrow's gold medal match against the unbeaten United States.

A three-run double to centre fielder Kerry Wyborn in the fifth inning broke the deadlock
and sealed Australia's win.

Wyborn opened her shoulders with bases loaded to bat in Simmone Morrow, Tanya Harding
and Tracey Mosley and guarantee two-time bronze medallist Australia at least a silver
medal.

Australia had earlier lost its semi-final to the United States 5-0 to put itself into
the sudden-death final against Japan.

Japan now takes the bronze medal.

The Australia-US match will be held at 4pm local time tomorrow (EDS: 11pm AEST).
