Fed: Nuclear must be pursued, Howard says

The prime minister says nuclear energy must be pursued .. because it'll help in the
battle against climate change .. without destroying the economy.

Yesterday JOHN HOWARD announced plans to open the way for nuclear power stations in
Australia .. as Labor's national conference voted to change the party's long-term opposition
to new uranium mines.

Today Mr HOWARD's told the Nine Network .. Australia's chief scientist says there are
only two ways to generate baseload power in this country .. and that's with fossil fuel
or in time .. nuclear power.

Denying the nuclear power strategy is political suicide .. he says Labor will run scare
campaigns no matter what the government does.
